The Art of Recognition: Unraveling the Threads of Exploitation

Image
Humans are very complex beings. We often want freedom but in its pursuit we enslave ourselves. We do not want people to use us but often we entrench our own exploitation by ourselves. That we may detest something but love another that leads straight to it makes it easy for humans to be easily manipulated. Someday, we shall discuss our enslavement in search of freedom. Today we shall discuss exploitation. No one wants to be taken advantage of at all. For every human, giving goes with receiving even if not in the same currency - not give 'A' & get 'A'. It often is give 'A' & get 'T'. Like giving care and attention and receiving the same or housing, money, or any other thing. When it is a case of 'kem kem huga' (mine alone gets lost) we soon lose any interest in the relationship, no matter the ties. Yeah, we actively resist it when people take advantage of us. But we love recognition & appreciation. 'Gratitude is the least of virtues...

For the Sake of the Children – Beware!

Image
“Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” - C.S. Lewis “The Golden Rule of Parenting is do unto your children as you wish your parents had done unto you!” - Louise Hart I still vaguely remember the first time I heard the phrase ‘for the sake of the children’. In this and almost all instances thereafter, it meant parents sacrificing a part of their lives to make a better one for their children. It has not always worked well for the parents and the children. Perhaps, you can also go into your repository and check if my observations are correct. I could overhear my parents discussing a problem and the options before them as they considered the cons and pros of choosing an option that had the best payout. After a while, my Mama reluctantly said ‘e hirinma rumutakiri’ and that was the first time I heard the phrase that when translated from the Ikwerre language is ‘for the sake of the children’ in English. I think that what they ...

Your Recovery Rate Is What Matters The Most!

“When life pushes you down, make sure you land on your back. This is because if you can look up, you can get up” - Les Brown The Goalkeeper was adjudged the hero of the match. As the referee blew his whistle, the players & bench rushed onto the pitch & lifted him high. I was happy for him; he made great saves throughout the game. However, his team trailed by 3 goals by the half-time. The goals were flukes, mistakes made by team members. A Defender was fouled by an Attacker from the opposing team, but instead of continuing to play, he just rolled on the floor in a pretend injury, thinking that the game would be stopped for a free kick in his favour. Unfortunately, the Referee thought otherwise and allowed the game to continue & it was a goal against his team. The 2nd was a Keeper error; he had run out of the Box to clear a ball but had a misstep. By the time he recovered, it was goal #2. If you are a football lover, you may remember the 2014 misstep that cost Liverpool the E...
