What Ideas Are Using You?
“I am grateful to the idea that has used me.” – Bob Proctor
The
ability to think, generate ideas, work at them and make them come to life is
one of the greatest gifts man has. It is one of the things that give our life
meaning and a sense of fulfillment. Man loves being able to control his
environment and his future and ideas make that possible. We dream and we make
things happen by working on our ideas.
What
are you doing with your dreams and your ideas? Bear in mind that everything in
existence in the material and spiritual world started with ‘an idea’. Your
ideas could change the world! Since the Pandora box was opened at Eden, there have
been good and bad ideas. The focus of this article are the good and beautiful
ideas that make the world a better place – make our lives better, improve our
family life, improves our efficiency at work, make our families happier and
healthier, produce things that make life more enjoyable and easy. Yes, those that resolve conflict, make education better, improve knowledge and information
generation, storage, analysis, acquisition, and transfer. Ideas that improve
humanity.
What
kind of ideas have people had in history? Look around you, what things made by
man did not first start as an idea? It could be ideas to manage problems like
those solved by the air conditioner, the airplane, the microphone, or other
creative, innovative thinking like the fonts in a word processor, the different
genres of music and so many other things. Ideas at work all the way!
My
main concern in this article is ‘what ideas are you sitting on?’ What
innovative ideas are you strangulating and making excuses upon excuses on and
not executing? I have met a lot of geniuses who have refused to manifest – Mr.
E, a maverick can turn computer programs, bolts, and pieces to portable
equipment and devices; Ms. M can turn the lives of rural girls around through
her social works; Mr. P can tell those beautiful stories that keep us fixated
for hours; Ms. F is an astute Administrator; Mr. O can turn your gibberish into
graphics that wow! The problem is that they hardly practice; their skills are a
bit rusty and the ideas they have lie dormant.
One
tragic thing is that if you don’t act on your mild to ground shattering ideas,
they won’t stay with you forever, waiting for you to strap your boots. Ideas are
‘spirits’. You see, the time may be right for something to happen or the need
may arise, and the idea goes out. This ‘Idea’ may settle in many people at the
same time. All can implement the idea at the same time and accomplish the
purpose or just one or a few may do so. Unique ideas may sometimes settle on 1
person, the only one in the whole universe. If he doesn’t do anything about it
within a reasonable time, the idea goes to another person, or the idea is
leapfrogged and a greater idea supersedes it. So that even if the earlier idea
is then implemented or acted on, it is dead on arrival or obsolete at birth.
What sort of ideas do you have – the unique one that your firm, family, Nation,
or the world needs to solve some problems? On another front – at times, God may
want something accomplished and sends out his spirit. It is a beautiful thing
when one receives the vibe, is willing, and is used to accomplish the task. But
could you somehow be resisting the spirit?
For
many years Mr. E, Ms. M, Mr. P, Mrs. T have been talking about the grand ideas
they have, and even if you were a dull person you knew right away that those
concepts could make a difference in the workplace, at home, in the society and
can bring lots and lots of economic benefits. I am sure we have people like
that in our lives if we are not one of them!
What
is holding you back in implementing your ideas? Fear of failure? Plenty
obstacles? In his book, The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning
Trials into Triumph’ Ryan Halliday states that the obstacles you face, those
seemingly insurmountable obstructions is what will make you great if you
persist. Be encouraged by the determination of rugged achievers who, in spite
of big wahala, didn’t give up on their ideas.
He
stated ‘The world is constantly testing us. It asks: Are you worthy? Can you
get past the things that inevitably fall in your way? Will you stand up and
show us what you’re made of? Plenty of people have answered this question in
the affirmative. And a rarer breed still has shown that they not only have what
it takes, but they thrive and rally at every such challenge. They make it seem that the challenge
makes them better than if they’d never faced the adversity at all’. So will you act despite your challenges and adversity?
Sam
E. Roberts adds ‘When a man is determined, what can stop him? Cripple him and
you have a Sir Walter Scott, put him in prison cell and you have a John Bunyan,
Bury him in the snows of Valley Forge and you have a George Washington. Have
him born in abject poverty and you have a Lincoln. Put him in the grease pit of
a locomotive roundhouse and you have a Walter Chrysler. Make him second fiddle
in an obscure South African Orchestra and you have a Toscanini. The hardships
of life are not sent by an unkind destiny to crush but to challenge’
Jonah
(in the Scriptures) was commissioned to implement a divine idea but he ran
away. I hope you have not turned into a Jonah by the way you handle the ideas
you have been entrusted with. No matter the delay, may your beautiful ideas
follow you till it gets implemented as illustrated by the redeemed Jonah who
got second and third chances.
Can
you decide today that you will give that beautiful idea a chance to come to
life? Time is ticking, make haste, the Universe won’t wait indefinitely.
